The purpose of my art is to take an object that has lived past its functional life expectancy and use it in a entirely different manner. Junk tells the story of our society, about our consumer driven lifestyle that causes us to cast away objects as soon as we are through with them, forgetting the fact that someone made that object. Someone’s life work was in perfecting that object. Through my art, I find these objects in states of disrepair, rotting away in a dumpster, scrap yard or just discarded on the street and use them to create organic themed assemblages, thus respecting the object and creating a new life for it. Recently these ideas have also transfixed themselves into my 2 Dimensional work. The works displayed in front of you are mixed media projects created on pieces of scrap wood. These have been created using mostly discarded materials found around town and my College I have purposely left the materials and objects recognizable in both forms on display here, it is my hope that I may help the viewer learn to see the beauty in every day objects, and to shift away from the norms of mass consumerism and our unsustainable society.
