Frequently Asked Questions | Get all the basics answered
Why do you require PayPal?
Paypal is required for a number of reasons. The first reason being that we need a way to verify who you are. Using Paypal is much safer than having to place a credit card on file with our website. The second reason, Paypal makes it easier for artists to collect for their sales. When purchasing art, buyers are redirected to Paypal to securely make their purchase. The commission percentage goes to BrokenPalette.com, while the remainder of the sale goes to the artist’s account. This way, artists’ commissions are never paid out of pocket. The third reason is that we want to protect you as an individual, and protect your intellectual property. Plagiarism will not be tolerated, it is disrespectful, insulting, and ILLEGAL.
Why is the website free to sign up and post works?
BrokenPalette.com is free to signup and post works because we are trying to help artists make a name for themselves. While some artists are creating artwork as a hobby, many are trying to make it their full-time job. It can be hard to continually pay websites and galleries to gain an audience, so we made it simple…commission is only collected if you sell something.
Why is the maximum picture display size 600 pixels wide?
The uploaded picture is resized to a maximum width of 600 pixels and has the water mark so that visitors to the website can't steal your photographs. If the picture size was any larger, visitors would have access to a copyrighted print-quality photo. Even though there is a watermark on every photo, we are trying to limit dishonest visitors' options to a minimum.
Does BrokenPalette.com share any of my information?
BrokenPallette.com will never share any of your information with other companies or individuals, or ever sell your information to a third party. We respect and value your privacy and will only use your information to protect your intellectual property.
If I were interested in partnering with Broken Palette for my event or promotion, who would I contact?
In order to contact Broken Palette for an event or promotion simply send an email to
info@brokenpalette.com with “Event Partnering” or "Promotion Partnering" as the subject.
Can I contact artists to commission artwork?
You may contact artists to discuss the commissioning of artwork. Artists may accept or decline your request at their own discretion. Your emails to artists must fit within the user agreement of the website. We don't recommend completing transactions outside of the website because we can't guarantee a safe transaction. We use Paypal because they have a guarantee for buyer and seller.
Why do I have to have my work approved before it gets posted?
BrokenPalette.com believes in respecting the intellectual property of our artists, as well as the intellectual property of others. Inappropriate posts will not be tolerated, including posts outside the user guidelines, and plagiarism. While we respect your creative genius, it is our webspace and we have the final say. If something isn't approved, we will send you a message as to why the post was declined. At that point, you will have to option to edit the artwork and submit it again.
Is there a limit on number of artist uploads?
At BrokenPalette.com the only requirement about works of art, is that whatever you upload is your own. Plagiarism will not be tolerated, it is disrespectful, insulting, and ILLEGAL. While there is no maximum number of works you can upload, there is no minimum either. Artists can join the website to receive information about theme contests and Broken Palette’s other promotions. Artists can even leave works online once they have sold, we allow this so artists can display their progression and diversity.
